Its stunning bodywork will attract your attention, but the 2021 Mercedes-AMG GT is more than just a beautiful face. The GT, a low-profile sports car with a wide stance, is extremely versatile and high-performance. This Mercedes front-engine solution to the rear-engine Porsche 911 is the GT. The GT is available at different points and features a twin-turbo V-8 hand-built. The AMG isn’t as engaging to drive as Porsche’s archrival, but it is still very athletic and can be driven on roads that aren’t racetrack-friendly. The 523-hp GT or 550-hp GT C are more for those who want a grand tourer. Those with sportier tastes will prefer the 577-hp GT R or GT R Pro. The majority of models can be purchased in coupe or softtop-roadster versions, however the track-focused Pro model and the mighty 720-hp Black Series is only available in hardtop.

What’s new for 2021?

AMG adds new standard features to the basic GT, more power and a Stealth Edition for 2021. The GT’s engine now produces 523 ponies and 494 pounds-feet. This is in addition to the additional 54 horsepower and 29 poundfeet torque. The GT’s engine now produces 523 ponies and 494 pound-feet of torque, a claimed 60-mph speed of 3.7 seconds. It also has a top speed of 194 miles per hour for the coupe and 193 for the roadster. Both body styles come standard with a lithium ion starter battery, Race drive mode, AMG Ride Control sport suspension, adaptive dampers, an electronic limit-slip rear differential, a brake system with iron wheels and red-painted aluminum pistons. The GT Stealth Edition has darkened elements inside and out.

Pricing and Which One To Buy

The regular GT is a good choice due to its power boost and increased feature content. Although the coupe is significantly cheaper than the roadster’s, we prefer the open-air feel and the pomp of the droptop. For the GT’s look, we would choose the set of 19-inch front wheels and 20-inch rear tires. We also chose one of the nappa leather options for the interior. To make the six-figure investment even more worthwhile, we would specify the ventilated front seats, passive hand-free entry, and 10-speaker Burmester sound systems.

Engine, Transmission, & Performance

Each Mercedes-AMG GT comes with a twin-turbo, 4.0-liter V-8 and seven-speed dual-clutch auto. However, each model will have a different output level. The base GT produces 523 horsepower. It comes standard with adaptive dampers, a limited slip rear differential, and a limited-slip rear differential. Mercedes has not yet revealed any modifications to the 2021 GT C or GT R engines. However, the previous model year saw them produce 550 and 577 horsepower. Our last GT C roadster was extremely fast, and we were able to hear the AMG’s loud exhaust note with the top down. We have also tested the GT R coupe and roadster. Although the GT R Pro coupe is slower than some mid-engine competitors, we still love its civilized ride. Although the Pro may be a bit too difficult for daily driving, its many enhancements over the R make the Pro faster and more fun to drive on the track. The Black Series is the ultimate GT coupe. It’s street-legal and can be driven on the streets. It is lighter and more track-oriented than the previous Black Series, and features AMG’s twin turbo V-8 flat-plane crank version. This engine produces 720 horsepower.

Fuel Economy and Real World MPG

It’s not surprising that the Mercedes-AMG GT lineup has such power, but the EPA fuel economy estimates aren’t as bad as you might think. Base GTs get 16 mpg in the city and 22 on the highway. If you choose the GT C, these numbers will drop to 15 mpg and 21 highway respectively. The GT R and GT R Pro achieve 15 mpg in the city and 20 on the highway. We will update this section once we receive the data from the EPA. The GT C roadster was tested on our 75-mph highway fuel economy route. They earned 20 and 22 mpg respectively.

Interior, Comfort, & Cargo

Mercedes offers a high level of build quality inside, which is in keeping with the GT’s large sticker price. Although the cabin is not spacious, the driving position is excellent. The center console has the capacitive touch controls for all the car’s performance settings. The 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster is also fantastic. Mercedes places the GT’s drive mode selector dial on its steering wheel, much like Porsche. The power-operated top of Roadsters can be lowered in seconds. The GT’s trunk holds 10 cubic feet more cargo than the Porsche 911.

Connectivity and Infotainment

The GT’s infotainment system runs through an 10.3-inch central display that is quite large within the confines of the cockpit. The system’s functions can be manipulated using a large knob located on the console, even though it isn’t touchscreen. Optional touchpad: It responds to gestures like pinching, swiping and handwriting. Two USB ports and navigation are standard. A six-month SiriusXM satellite broadcast subscription, Apple CarPlay compatibility and Android Auto compatibility are also included. You can also get Wi-Fi onboard.
